Centenary emerged from the remnants of Lansing and Detroit-area metal bands, forged by a shared devotion to extreme music and a desire to create something brutally their own. Originally founded by Mike Bradley in 2004, Centenary took its current form in 2016 with Bradley on guitar, Allen Mercer on vocals, Matt Cunningham on lead guitar, Jim Albrecht on bass, and Adam Davey on drums. The band has come to define its sound as “Detroit Chainsaw Metal”—a vicious homage to the old-school Swedish death metal tradition (think Entombed, Dismember, and Grave) fused with the modern brutality of American death metal. Punishing drums, crunchy and infectious riffs, relentless speed, and raw aggression form the foundation of Centenary’s uncompromising sound.

Drawing inspiration from horror and science-fiction films, as well as both fictional and nonfictional dark history, the band’s songs inhabit a world where brutality, dread, and imagination collide. Their music carries the spirit of classic death metal while maintaining a distinctly modern edge, establishing Centenary as a force rooted firmly in the traditions of extreme metal without being confined by them.

Currently, Centenary is completing recording and mastering for its third full-length album, scheduled for release in winter 2026 through CDN Records. As the new album takes shape, the band continues to bring its punishing live attack to stages across the region, both headlining and opening for major acts.
